FRANK LANGELLA TO BE GUEST
OF HONOR AT BOSTON SOCIETY OF FILM CRITICS AWARDS
CEREMONY
“STARTING
OUT IN THE EVENING” STAR TO RECEIVE BEST ACTOR AWARD JANUARY 20 AT THE
BRATTLE THEATER
BOSTON
— Stage and screen star Frank Langella, whose
powerful performance in “Starting Out in the Evening” earned Best Actor
honors from the Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC), will attend the BSFC’s first-ever awards ceremony Sunday, January 20,
2008 at the Brattle Theatre, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA.
Langella’s appearance will be accompanied by a
screening of “Starting Out in the Evening,” a drama about a novelist in the
twilight of his career who is rejuvenated by a complex relationship with an
ambitious young grad student (Lauren Ambrose). The film is directed by Andrew
Wagner from the novel by Brian Morton and costars Lili
Taylor.
Tickets
to the event are available to the public through the Brattle Theater.
Langella, who topped the Boston critics’ list for best actor of 2007,
is a three time Tony award winning actor. He will reprise his 2007 Tony
winning role as Richard Nixon in the upcoming film adaptation of
“Frost/Nixon” to be directed by Ron Howard. His extensive film credits
include “Dracula” (1979) opposite Laurence Olivier, in which Langella recreated his famous stage role. More recently,
he appeared in George Clooney’s “Good Night, and Good Luck” (2005) as former
CBS chief executive William S. Paley and in Bryan
Singer’s “Superman Returns” (2006) as Daily Planet editor Perry White.
The
awards event will also honor several members of the Boston film community cited by BSFC for their
contributions in 2007. Local awardees include Nick Paleologos,
director of the Massachusetts Film Office; Kaj
Wilson, outgoing curator for the Boston Jewish Film Festival; and Tom
Doherty, Brandeis University professor and author of “Hollywood's Censor:
Joseph I. Breen and the Production Code.”
Formed
in 1981, the BSFC is made up of 20 professional film critics working in the
print and broadcast media in and around Boston. The group votes for the best films
and performances of the year each December. Visit the BSFC website at
www.thebsfc.org for a complete list of winners.
